the lake

In spring of youth it was my lot
To haunt of the wide earth a spot
The which I could not love the less --
So lovely was the loneliness
Of a wild lake, with black rock bound,
And the tall pines that tower'd around.

a weekend at the classic car show

My buddy and metalman extraordinaire Raphael just started his own business Schaub Metalworks. But we all know, there's no business without customers. So, in a matter of days, he got himself a spot at the annual swiss classic car show in order to promote his new shop to a wider audience.

Friday noon, we were ready to hit the road to Fribourg, a nice little town in the french speaking part of Switzerland.

In a brain twisting creative process, we came up with the booth concept. It basically consisted of his hot rod, complemented by enough beer to stand the various challenges during a weekend long classic car show.

Our concept seemed to work out as the whole weekend long, a crowd was gathering around Raphael's infamous three window coupe.

It was nice to talk to everyone and we met a lot of great people. Most popular questions were "what year is it?", "what is it?" or "what did it use to be?".

During the two days at the show, we had enough time to check out the other cars.

This Cobra was one of my personal favorites.

Thousands of model cars.

The lighting reminded me of the Suede Palace at the Grand National Roadster Show.

More cool cars.

1933 Alvis with a front mounted supercharger.

Another Alvis. A true hot rod!

The day usually ended sometime in the morning at this cool local bar. Good times!

big in down under

When it comes to traditional car culture, it's hard not to notice the things going on down under. Publications like FUEL magazine or the work of photographers like Chris Cooper make it look like Australia is hot rod paradise. Hell even if it is only half as good in real as it looks on the pictures, what the fuck am I still doing here? Just have a look at those pictures! (photos © Chris Cooper)

sick bed visit

My 1949 made friends with this 1952 two door sedan who is just about to get an engine transplant. Even at mock-up stage only, the 327 seems to feel right at home.

baby one more time

Fantastic vibe, cool angles, amazing atmosphere. Another great video clip from Alex Rosen... in case you like traditional lowriders, too. I do.

poetry in motion

Maybe you've seen this fantastic footage from the second Los Boulevardos Cruise to the Lake already somewhere. If so, enjoy it for a second time. If not, enjoy it even more. And in case you didn't know: "Los Boulevardos Car Club gathered friends and enthusiasts for an afternoon in the park. Friends of the club donated art, clothes, parts and goods for an auction & raffle raising donations for the kids at the Los Angeles Children's Hospital." Great song by the way. (© Alex Rosen)

breakfast break

Finally... spring has sprung. And what better excuse to take a ride around the block than promising the lady at home to bring along some fresh bread and sweets for breakfast. Especially needful in case the ride around the block turns into a ride around two blocks or more or right across that military airfield where I always wanted to take a picture of the chevy. Well, the sun came from the wrong side but I really had no time to wait. And neither had she.

rollin' hard

This is by far one of the greatest shots I've seen in a while and probably one of the best rolling shots ever. Photo by David Starr, modified by Howard Gribble. Wow, just wow.

all killer no filler

The Los Boulevardos Cruise To The Lake seems to be developing into one unique celebration of good taste. At least when checking out the pictures I found on various websites, I couldn't spot one single car that wouldn't deserve some carefully chosen words of praise. And the beautiful photos taken by Buenasuertegirl definitely are on par with the event. (photos © Brooke Guerrero)
